CHLAMYDIA
Chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted infection. One out of ten sexually active people are infected by chlamydia. It is transmitted through sexual intercourse or from mother to child at childbirth. If the illness is neglected it can leave permanent consequences to one’s genitalia, as well as infertility in both men and women. Usually there are no symptoms, this is why it is important to get tested and diagnosed early on.
Chlamydia in women, symptoms when they do appear:
Stinging sensation during urination
Increased vaginal secretion
Back pain or pain during sexual intercourse
Non-menstrual vaginal bleeding
Chlamydia in men, symptoms when they do appear:
Stinging sensation during urination
Penile discharge
Inflammation, swelling or pain in the testicles
Unpleasant itch around the glans of the penis
Chlamydia is treated easily using antibiotics. It is very important to refrain from sexual activity during therapy, because you are still infective and can easily infect your partner that can in term reinfect you.
